A blog with a difference. This is a lovely write-up from the sustainable fashion label Jan ’N June about our collaboration with them.
When cutting the fabrics in our garment production in Poland there happen to be offcuts. This is what the leftovers of the materials are called that are not used to sew a garment. Sometimes our production in Poland needs even less fabric than calculated. We didn’t like the idea of simply throwing away those offcuts. Instead we decided to make beautiful accessories and notebook covers out of these leftovers! Yay!
The collection of these products will be available at our online shop exclusively. Some of you already had the chance to grab some selective products at our Pop-Up Shop at B-LAGE in Hamburg in May. The collection contains headbands, scrunchies, pillow cases, small purses and notebooks. Each of them is made out of our recycled and organic fabrics. For this special project we worked together with two amazing production companies, that are specialized in working with offcuts.
The accessories such as the scrunchies, pillow cases were produced by Bridge & Tunnel, a young company that is located in Hamburg. The notebooks were produced in Mumbai by the company KAPDAA®.
Since we only used leftovers of the fabrics and zippers, the amount of pieces is very limited. As a sustainable company we see sustainability as something holistic. Which means that we try to improve each step in our value chain, try to eliminate waste and getting involved with up cycling opportunities.
Nish and his notebooks
When Nish, the founder of KAPDAA®, watched his mother cutting the fabrics in her designer studio, he soon realized that a lot of beautiful material was just thrown away. Back then he was a little child, but a couple years later, when he graduated from university he would make the problem of textile waste his business. He build up KAPDAA®, which has a simple yet significant concept: the team in the production that is located in Mumbai, India, produces notebooks covers and other accessories with the offcuts of different companies. The small team of local workers in India work under safe and human conditions, which gives them the opportunity to earn fair salaries for their families. Also, the paper of the notebooks is FSC-certified. Sustainable, fair & up cycled – we’re in love!
