Vanessa Arbuthnott Sustainable Story
At Vanessa Arbuthnott Fabrics, they are aware of their responsibilities to the environment, and are wholly committed to improving the entire manufacturing processes. They choose to work only with ethical and accredited suppliers making business decisions based on the global and environmental impact – just like Kapdaa. Only certified organic cotton combined with eco-friendly flax is to create their unique linen union used for each Vanessa Arbuthnott fabric, printed and plain. Additionally, Vanessa Arbuthnott Fabrics sources their electricity from renewable resources, showing they support the generation of renewable energy. It doesn’t, however, stop at their fabric manufacturing process. At home Vanessa Arbuthnott also functions to help reduce her impact on the environment with heating coming from an air to air source heat pump, a wood chip boiler and highly insulated artists’ studios using sheep’s wool. Additionally, The company uses recycled paper and biodegradable cardboard. All of the waste card and paper is shredded and used as bedding for their ducks and chickens — eventually turning into great compost for their vegetable patch! And what about the beautiful excess fabric? Instead of using it as bedding for their animals, insulation for their stockroom, Vanessa Arbuthnott Fabrics sends it to Kapdaa. From there we use the eco-friendly fabrics to create eco-friendly accessories to help reduce the amount of waste we put into the environment. The result – not vegetables- but sustainable, stylish, and handmade accessories for everyone especially the environmentally conscious.
